ABOUT
Dr. J
Dr. J began his musical journey in the Appalachian mountains of northeast Tennessee, surrounded by traditional mountain music. A first-generation college student, he graduated from Emory & Henry University, where he studied music education, French, and education. He was then accepted into Teach For America and taught in the San Antonio Independent School District, earning his Master of Music degree and Kodály certification at UTSA along the way. He went on to attend the prestigious Eastman School of Music, where he earned his Ph.D. in music teaching and learning.
Today, Dr. J is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at UTRGV and president-elect of the international Early Childhood Music and Movement Association, bringing internationally recognized early-childhood expertise to the studio's youngest musicians.
