About the Event
Celtic Crossings invites audiences on a musical journey through the traditions and landscapes of Ireland, Scotland, and the British Isles, alongside the timeless music of J.S. Bach and the expressive sounds of the Romantic era. Familiar folk melodies and Celtic-inspired works appear beside music that reveals the remarkable range of the classical guitar, from Bach's intricate counterpoint to the warmth, drama, and lyricism of the Romantic composers.
Rather than presenting these traditions as separate worlds, José Villarreal brings them together in a program exploring the connections between folk music and the classical tradition. Celtic melodies have long inspired composers, carrying stories, landscapes, and cultural memory from one generation to the next. Heard beside Bach and the Romantic masters, these melodies take on new colors.
The Evening

Solo classical guitar. 50 minutes, no intermission.

Doors at 7:00 PM. Music at 7:15 PM.
RECEPTION
The lobby reception (before, during and after the concert) is open to all and complimentary. The artist stays afterward.

About the Artist
José Villarreal is a professional musician, guitarist, and educator based in South Texas. He began playing guitar at 14, and by 16 was earning his first income teaching private lessons to classmates.
He has performed with a wide variety of bands and projects, including a concert with the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet at Austin City Limits and two sold-out performances with Los Enanitos Verdes in McAllen. He has studied in master classes with LAGQ member William Kanengiser and with guitarist Steve Vai. In 2023 he performed alongside Del Castillo, and in 2025 with Maná during the band's first performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver.
José holds a Bachelor's in Classical Guitar Education from the University of Texas at Brownsville, a Master's in Contemporary Music Performance from Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain, and a second Master's in Classical Guitar Performance from UTRGV. His transcription of En Vivo by Los Enanitos Verdes was published in 2015. He teaches privately in Brownsville while continuing to record and perform throughout South Texas.
