About the event
Featuring music ranging from magical to maniacal and hilarious to harrowing, faculty pianist Dr. Brendan Kinsella performs a “one-man band” voice, piano, and multi-media music event, the first of its kind ever presented in the Rio Grande Valley. Recited in German, Robert Schumann’s Two Melodramas evoke the dark mystery of German Romanticism. Spoken in Mandarin Chinese, Gao Ping's Prayer's Mask infuses Chinese traditional music with a quiet but intense anti-war sentiment. Kurt Schwitters’ raucous, unbelievable Ursonate closes the first half. The concert concludes with Frederic Rzewski’s epic De Profundis, adapted from Oscar Wilde’s eponymous essay on persecution, suffering, and redemption.UTRGV Events
